Root Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery On JellyBean 4.2.2
This tutorial for flashing ClockworkMod 6.0.3.1 will only work with the
Galaxy S4 I9500 model, so please do not try it with any other device. If
you’re unsure as to what model you’re running, head to Settings > About Phone to verify that you are indeed running the I9500 model.
Prerequisite
1. backup everything that you wish to keep on your phone.
2. make sure you have all of the relevant Samsung Android USB driver for Galaxy S4.
3.make sure you’ve enabled USB debugging mode.,
4. Battery Backup above 70% is highly recommended for the entire process
Steps to install ClockworkMod
Step 1: Download and extract the following files:
Step 2: Power down your device completely before booting back up in Download Mode. This is achieved by holding Volume Down and Home simultaneously, before long-pressing the Power button until a message appears prompting you to tap Volume Up.
Step 3: Launch Odin3 v3.07.exe as extracted in Step 1, ensuring that you do so as an Administrator on Windows.
Step 4: Connect your S4 to your computer, ensuring that an "Added" message pops up in the bottom left-hand area of the Odin interface. If you don’t see the message, try another USB port, and failing that, check the relevant USB drivers are installed.
Step 5: Open the cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en_new.tar file you extracted in Step 1, ensuring you’ve also checked the PDA checkbox. Also, you’ll need to make sure that the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are checked. Make sure that Re-partition is unchecked, or your device could become permanently bricked.
Step 6: Hit the Start button in Odin, and the flashing process will commence. Once CWM recovery has been successfully flashed, your device will reboot, and a message "Pass" should confirm as much by appearing in the left-hand side of the Odin interface.

Before we proceed, please be advised that you follow these instructions at your own risk.we’re going to make this very clear from the beginning that you have to flash the Cofface’s ClockworkMod Recovery on your device before you can root it, there’s no way around it, and is a strict requirement if you wish to root your Galaxy S4 handset. Furthermore, backing up your handset is highly advised, in case something goes wrong.

Step 2: In Recovery, go to root your phone, followed by choosing any of the two methods. CWM Recovery will notify once the process is complete.
Step 3: Reboot your device once again, and you will have the Super User app installed on your Galaxy S4 GT-I9500. Please ensure to not update the su binaries after this.
