HTC EVO 4G LTE : Auto Unlock Bootloader + Root and CWM with WinDroid Toolkit v2.0
| Unlock | Root | Flash | S-OFF | CWM | TWRP |
The WinDroid Toolkit is a Windows application that allows you to do all of the pre- and post-requisites to rooting an HTC EVO 4G LTE with just a few clicks.
No longer do you have to find correct ADB drivers for Windows, install the SDK or an ADB toolkit, manually grab your unlock token using fastboot, submit it to HTCDev for an unlock bin, wait for the email, fastboot flash the unlock bin, push a custom recovery, flash superuser binary, and install Superuser. With WinDroid for the EVO 4G LTE, it’s just a series of clicks and you’re done.
There are three methods included to obtain S-OFF, and you can choose which recovery you’re interested in flashing at boot time, not that there’s any modern recovery that can’t flash itself these days in the EVO line. After you’re rooted you can flash custom kernels, system, data, and radio images, sideload ROMs, push and pull files, grab the logcat, and tons of other useful options.
The app itself doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of attention, which is a shame as it’s a pretty useful toolkit. But then again it’s pretty late in the EVO 4G LTE’s life, so there may just not be a lot of demand for it.
If you’re interested in getting it, it seems that XDA has done something new: there’s now a downloads tab with direct and torrent downloads. Although I applaud these efforts, the tab is not visible to old (and possibly new) versions of Tapatalk, and the torrent is not connecting to the one seed that it has, so you’ll be limited to direct download. The downloads tab is the second entry located above the first post, but directly below the banner ad.
I’ll fess up to not having tried this, as I am rooted, S-OFF, and running a computer that’s temporarily incapable of doing anything that might destabilize or require a reboot for the next week. So if you get a chance to use it, drop back in and let us know how it worked for you.
This is a GUI program built using C# in Visual Studio 2013 that takes advantage of ADB and Fastboot commands and puts them into an easy-to-use toolkit. I will be continually developing it and trying out new features, so feel free to request any features you may want. Keep in mind that I am only 16 and have only been coding in C# since June, so I may not be able to implement every requested feature, and if it is possible, I may require assistance from our more skilled members. Any and all criticism is welcome, from the handling of a certain function to the misalignment of a button. I'm a neat freak myself, so no issue is too small! I hope you enjoy the toolkit and I hope that I will beable to expand it further as time goes on.
